![]() ![]() This is a selection of a native North American species. The stunning cypress tree grows to between 20 and 35 ft. The fast-growing cypress thrives in full sun or part shade. This weeping cypress tree has sprays of evergreen foliage drooping from branches. Consider applying a thick mulch around the root zone in winter to protect it in exposed locations or colder microclimates. Examples of impressive Nootka cypress cultivars: ‘Pendula’ Nootka cypress. It is quite intolerant of urban pollution, therefore inner city or urban streetside plantings are best avoided, and will benefit from being planted in a relatively sheltered location. It is not particular as to soil type or pH. Small Brown, Purple or Mostly Green Cone Fruiting time: Fall Bark: Light Green or Light Gray, Exfoliating, Furrowed Litter: Dry Fruit. It prefers to grow in average to moist conditions, and shouldn't be allowed to dry out. Open and arching branches give this tree its weeping form. This tree does best in full sun to partial shade. It grows at a medium rate, and under ideal conditions can be expected to live for 70 years or more. Provides dramatic color and form to autumn and winter landscapes. Uses Dense foliage makes a great informal hedge row or privacy screen. Low-maintenance selection requires little attention. When pruning is necessary, it is recommended to only trim back the new growth of the current season, other than to remove any dieback. This is a relatively low maintenance tree. Its average texture blends into the landscape, but can be balanced by one or two finer or coarser trees or shrubs for an effective composition. The shaggy antique red bark adds an interesting dimension to the landscape. The scale-like sprays of foliage remain bluish-green throughout the winter.
